What It Does

Leather Prep softens and lifts aged or unstable pigment layers and opens the leather surface for new coatings. Used with a fibre pad or lint-free cloth, it evens transitions, feathers edges and creates a clean, receptive substrate for waterborne finishing systems.

Works where degreasers alone are not enough: persistent top-film residues, glossy areas, edges with micro-lifting, and zones requiring mechanical/chemical keying.

Professional Applications

Automotive: bolster edges, steering wheels and panels before recolouring.
Furniture: armrests, high-touch panels with failing top coat.
Leather goods: bags/shoes with cracked or flaking paint films.

Compatible Leather Types

Finished/pigmented leather and many coated PU/artificial leather surfaces. Always test on an inconspicuous area; avoid excessive use on sensitive finishes.

Not suitable for suede or nubuck.

Work from seam to seam; avoid creating sharp cut-offs. Keep pads clean and change frequently.
After Prep, proceed with Leather Binder (if fibres are weak), then Light/Heavy Filler, Primer, Colourant and Top Coat.

Always perform a small-area test to check sensitivity and removal rate before full application.

How to Use – Step by Step

Degrease First — Clean oils/silicones with Leather Liquid Degreaser; let dry.
Apply Leather Prep — Dampen a lint-free cloth or fine fibre pad with Leather Prep.
Work the Surface — Wipe in controlled motions from seam to seam, feathering edges and removing unstable/old coating. Keep the pad clean; change as it loads.
Level & Unify — Even out gloss and transitions until the surface is uniformly matte/keyed.
Remove Residues — Wipe thoroughly with a clean cloth; allow to evaporate until dry to the touch.
Proceed — Continue with Leather Binder (if needed), Light/Heavy Filler, Primer, Colourant, Top Coat.
Test First — Always test on a hidden area to confirm sensitivity and removal rate.
Safety — Work with ventilation; keep away from open flame/ignition. (Exact solvent system: requires verification.)
