Leather Goods Care: Cleaning, Protection & Storage
Our leather goods care guide shows how to clean, protect, condition and store bags, shoes, jackets and car items safely. Follow these leather goods care basics to prevent color loss, cracking and odors while keeping the natural feel.

Leather Goods Care: General Rules
Identify the leather first, then match chemistry and tools. Prefer pH-balanced foam cleaners, soft microfiber, and breathable protectors. Heat, harsh solvents and over-wetting are the main risks.
- Patch-test on a hidden area before full application.
- Wipe after wear to remove body oils and dust; deep clean monthly or as needed.
- Protect high-touch zones (handles, collars, cuffs) to reduce dye transfer.

Tip: protection keeps surfaces supple without greasy residue and makes future cleaning easier.
Aniline & Pull-Up
Open-pore structure = great hand feel, higher absorbency. Use mild foam, minimal moisture and breathable creams/waxes. For wear spots, choose local recolor/top-coat rather than aggressive scrubbing.

Suede & Nubuck
Use dry methods (brush along the nap; nubuck sponge/eraser for marks). Avoid soaking and household detergents that collapse fibers.
Protected / Coated
Semi-aniline and pigmented leathers accept deeper surface cleaning. Use soft cloths only; avoid scouring pads. Keep creams light on vintage “antique” effects.

Storage & Odor Control
Store leather in a cool, dry, ventilated place. Use shape keepers for shoes and breathable garment bags for jackets. Avoid plastic wrap and direct heat sources.
Leather Aroma
Finish detailing with a refined fragrance that’s safe for coated leather, plastics and textiles. Two options on one page: Classic (warm woody-musky) and Fresh (clean, airy brightness).
- Mist lightly with ventilation on recirculation; never soak surfaces.
- Apply only after coatings fully cure post-repair.
